Doctor My Eyes, Tell Me What You See..

If you have visited this site more than once lately you’ve been met with the same long-outdated post from January 2025. That’s because 2025 turned into one of, if not THE, most chaotic years of my life. It was full of the most unbelievable extremes, both good and bad.

I won’t bore you with the details except to share that exactly one year ago to the day I experienced sudden onset glaucoma, a near death experience from the eye drops used to treat the condition, and a long recovery period before cataract surgery in both eyes. I am happy to report that I see better now than I ever have, and that’s saying something for someone who’s been wearing glasses since age 2.

It would be nice to blame my posting absence on my eye health, but in truth it actually has more to do with the world right now. I am an eternal optimist and the world is anything but. Everything feels so heavy.

I won’t say I feel hopeless but the chaos no matter where you look is hard to navigate.  What could I possibly write that would bring even a modicum of calm to anything?

And yet.

Now that my eyes are functioning, and I’ve begun to slowly create again, I’ve decided to resume blogging on a more regular basis than once every sixteen months. Whether I am sharing travel, or books, or art, or anything else that captures my attention, I will do so from a place of love and laughter, with the hope that what your see and read might make your day a bit lighter.

I’m an eternal optimist and am against spreading negativity. Since the world has been such a shit show lately, my desire to post has been non-existent. But I really do miss creating, so I’m getting back on the blogging saddle with a ‘low-hanging fruit ‘ephemera post, which is the result of months of saved links that caught my eye and might interest you too.

All over Nashville…

Last week I gave you an insider’s itinerary of things to do if you ever visit Nashville. Until then, here are some of my favorite Music City themed books you can read to feel like you’ve already been.

What are you doing New Year’s Eve…

From the Frank Buttolph Menu Collection (updated for 2022)

I’ve been enjoying a nice, long break and taking it a bit slower than I usually do.  Eating lots of great food, watching ‘must see’ movies [Being the Ricardo’s, Don’t Look Up, Nobody, The Last Duel and in a few days, MacBeth], and spending time with those I love are the best presents of all, and the perfect way to end 2021.

I’m not a resolution kind of gal, but I am a BIG list maker.  On my list for 2022; travel to San Diego, Denver, Charleston, and Apalachicola, reading, painting [the art kind] and lightening up. By that I mean getting rid of some of the clutter and excess I seem to collect.  I’ve spent the morning cleaning out my internet ‘Other Bookmarks’ folder (aka: links to things I will get around to reading eventually). Here are a few things which made the cut that you might enjoy…

Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best for 2022!

…Choose a book and off I go

One of my favorites things to receive is books.  In addition to a fabulous Taschen book (The Collection of the Kyoto Costume Institute: Fashion – A History from the 18th to the 20th Century) this Christmas I was also gifted with the 9 volumes pictured above.  I started with – and just finished – The Good Lord Bird (which I highly recommend).  I am torn between reading The Buried GiantPurity or Tales from the Back Row next, so  rI’m going to use “eeny meeny miny moe” to decide.  How about you?   I’d love to hear what you’re reading right now…..
