“Oooooops” – part of the “Who Am I?” Installation

I’ve been working without a day off for a few weeks now, preparing for “Who Am I,” a community writing and art show featuring the works of 42 participants ranging in age from 6 to 90.  Between packing up the old show, matting and framing the new, and preparing the show materials I haven’t had time for much of anything except a few stolen moments wasted on the web, looking for my next adventure.  Here are a few items that held my attention long enough for me to want to experience each in person…

How about you?  Do you have the itch to get away somewhere?  Where would like you to escape to for a few days…or weeks?  I’d love to know…

It’s been 30 years since we lived in South Florida and while a lot has changed (more people, more traffic, more buildings) an awful lot has stayed the same (the beautiful scenery, delicious food, and incredible cosmopolitan vibe).  We used the Miami Punk Rock High School Reunion as an excuse to get away for a week and relive our youth… Continue reading “Havana moon…”

If you have been reading my blog for any length of time you know I love to travel.  Whether it’s a day trip, weekend get-away, or week long adventure I am always game to go.  Next up – Miami and Havana!

I spent 5 years in the 80’s living in Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and Miami Beach so going back to South Florida to visit my old haunts (and friends) is going to be a blast.  As if that weren’t enough I am also going to spend a few days in Cuba – a place I’ve always dreamed of visiting but never thought I’d actually get a chance to see in person.

I know plenty about South Florida and next to nothing about Cuba so I’ve purchased a few tourist guides (Fodor’s Cuba (Travel Guide) and Lonely Planet Cuba (Travel Guide)) and created a Cuba Ricky! inspiration page.  I also sent off for a new passport, since the last time I traveled out of the States was to ring in the 21st century at the foot of Edinburgh Castle.

I love the endless possibilities and the planning that go along with travel and over the next few months I will be sharing my plans with you.  Have you spent any time exploring Miami or Havana? Do you have any tips you can share that would help me plan my trip or suggestions for places to go, things to do, and – perhaps most important – restaurants I should visit?   I’d love to know…

I spent a lot of time at various airports over the past week and had plenty of time to surf the web.  Here are a few sites that helped me to pass the time while I waited between flights….

This weekend I am taking a quick road trip to Jonesboro to watch rugby (Go Badgers!) with a pitstop in Memphis for some BBQ. How about you?  Any travel plans this weekend?  Or will you surf the web instead?  I’d love to know…
